Touchon or Touchon & Co ?

I often receive enquiries from people in possession of key wound watches signed simply Touchon, Henry Touchon or Cecil Touchon enquiring as to whether they are the same as Touchon & Co. They are always key wind ( Touchon & Co didn't make any key wind watches ), in silver cases and have either white enamel or silver dials. They all date from around 1880 to about 1895 and are of a quality which can best be described as very average. This information should answer your questions if you have one of them and I am absolutely not interested in purchasing any examples of them. The servicing and appraisal service I offer for Touchon & Co watches does not extend to these 'lesser' watches.

They are nothing whatsoever to do with the fine watches produced by Touchon & Co.... Even if a Touchon & Co watch just has Touchon on the dial, it will still read Touchon & Co on the movement.

The people who produced them were undoubtedly ancestors of the Touchon & Co brand, but they are a world apart in terms of quality and value. The watch pictured above is one such example I picked up as a conversation piece. If you see one, don't pay very much for it as they just aren't worth it. they frequently appear on eBay and fetch between £50 GBP and £100 GBP depending on condition.
